Review: VēDO Rio Anal Vibe

Having been introduced to VēDO's line of products with the Wink Vibrator, it wasn't long before we decided to try another: the Rio Anal Vibe.

I was excited about this one, for three reasons: (1) both of us love anal play; (2) oddly, we don't have a vibrating butt plug of any type; and (3) my/our experience with the Wink Vibrator had left me with a very good impression of VēDO products.

Like the Wink, The Rio Anal Vibe is well-packaged and nicely-constructed from high-quality silicone and well-formed plastic parts. As a vibe, it requires a battery: a single AAA, which is fine (I'll come back to this again later), but is not included. It has a simple button on the bottom of the plug to turn on the vibe, and boasts 10 vibration modes! And it's waterproof, so you can take it in the bath or shower with you. And it comes in a nice array of colors (we got the purple one, as shown, but I almost picked the blue one).

 We've tried out the Rio on each of our asses, and it has gotten a fair amount of use since we bought it a couple months ago. There's a lot to love, but also some things that keep me from wholeheartedly recommending it.

The size of the Rio is nice; not too big, which would obviously limit its usefulness—and yet it's big enough that you never get to that point where you can't feel it "in there" anymore. For an average-sized hole, it's almost the perfect size. The stop at the base is also well-sized and shaped, so that it doesn't get in the way while doing its job. The design of this plug is striking, because it is more angular with defined edges, and it looks beautiful to behold (especially if you love sex toys!). However, the atypical shape has a downside: it looks and feels (to me) as though the space between the bulbous part of the plug and the base is narrower, just enough that it's a little more difficult to get it all the way in (especially in hubby's ass).

Once fully inserted, though, it does stay in place—most of the time. There was one occasion when it when it popped right out of hubby while he was bent over me in a doggy position. Of course, when you're using a plug then your butthole is going to loosen up, and I had used a liberal amount of lube to get it inside him that time... then, bending over and not "clinching" combined with those other factors, and out it came. It could happen with any smaller plug, I suppose, but it hasn't ever happened before to us. We've found with the Rio that, if you work it all the way in, then hold it there for a bit, usually we will "contract" around it enough to hold it in effectively.

Another quirky thing about the shape and build of the Rio is that it's a little bit "pokey." As you can see from the picture, it has a fairly pronounced point to the tip, less rounded than other plugs we've used. At the same time, the silicone, while soft-ish on the end, is surprisingly rigid when you're trying to stab this thing into someone's bung-hole. Both of us flinched at a "miss," which taught us each a valuable lesson on being gentle with our partner's assholes.

Now, the vibe part is very nice, and I must say that this has definitely piqued our curiosities about anal vibes in general. While it claims 10 different vibration modes, I had a little trouble discerning all 10 while it was inside me; several of them are quite similar. Nevermind that, though—all of them feel very nice! And, the vibe is very quiet, which is great. The switch is adequate: it works well enough, and it is placed where it has to be placed on a toy like this, but you also can't help but hit it when trying to insert the Rio into your own or someone else's ass. The tricky part of the switch, though (as I discovered first with the Wink Vibrator) is that you have to HOLD the button in for several seconds to turn the vibe off.

The choice of the AAA battery is an interesting one. It definitely is a more common battery size/shape than, say, the little button cells, and we are more likely to have spares in the house because of that. On the other hand, this particular choice means that the vibe part of the toy protrudes out of the bottom of the plug quite a bit—which makes it easier to reach to switch to a different vibe mode, but it also means that you cannot sit very comfortably with this thing in your backside. (I don't know about you, but this limits its use for us fairly significantly; it's not all that uncommon for one or the other of us to have a butt plug in while we're watching TV, or even out to dinner.)

The folks at VēDO claim that the battery life is 2 hours, but our experience has been different. Normal battery life seems to be more like 1.25 to 1.5 hours. Of course, if you leave the battery in and put it in a suitcase, the switch is not hidden enough to where it won't accidentally be turned on and run down the battery entirely, forcing you to go battery-shopping on your vacation... or, ahem, so I hear.

VēDO says this toy is 100% non-latex and is phthalate free, and thus hypoallergenic. It cleans up easily with soap and water or a specialized toy cleaner; you can submerge it, because it's waterproof, as long as it is fully assembled (but don't try to wash it when it's disassembled, or you may ruin the electronics).

In summary, hubby and I both love the way the Rio Anal Vibe feels when it is inside us; it's well-built and has nice features. It also has a handful of problems that could each be addressed to make it (or maybe Rio 2.0, if you will) a perfect anal vibe.

I give it 3.5 out of 5 "Os," holding back for the reasons I listed above—but don't miss the really great parts I mentioned, too. The Rio really is a good toy, and one that we've already gotten a lot of great use out of!

Review: VēDO Jack

Hey everyone—it's the hubby here, for a guest posting.

Not too long ago, I had a business trip that took me out of town for two weeks. I don't often travel for my work, but this was an extended training opportunity that was too good to miss. Now, if you've read this blog very much, you know that my wife is pretty sexually charged! The thought of going two weeks without some play was driving her crazy.

So, she went by the novelty store that's not too far from our home, and got us a "his and hers" surprise to take care of both of our needs: she got a "Wink" Vibrator (which she has already reviewed), and I got a "Jack" Stimulation Sleeve—both made by VēDO. Angie's idea was that we could video chat and get off together, maybe even with a little extra fun thrown in (one night she dressed up in a costume; another time, I was in a semi-public place).

I've tried a few similar products before (a "Fleshlight" and similar knock-offs), and they aren't bad; usually, the need to warm them up for optimal sensation is tedious. Also, the "Fleshlight" is a bit bulky for traveling (10 inches long), if you want to fit it into a dopp kit or some other bag (and not just pack it loose in your luggage). They can be messy to clean, as well, and I've also found that they can be prone to tearing with multiple/frequent use.

I'm an average-sized guy, around 6.5 inches or so in length and proportionally thick, so in my opinion they shouldn't be tearing that easily—especially for the price. Angie knew about these issues, and almost bought the (disposable) Tenga Eggs to accommodate these problems, until the store salesclerk pointed her to the VēDO.

The VēDO Jack tops the others I've tried in all measures. It's far more compact than a Fleshlight, and much easier to clean up. And, despite frequent use during my trip, it never tore or showed any signs of wear.

So, how was it? It felt great; the inside is ribbed in just the right ways to stimulate me, and I definitely came fast—much faster than just with my hand. (It didn't hurt that Angie was "helping" me out with audio-visuals on her end, either.) The fit was superb, and it slid on easily with just a little bit of lube on my shaft. The soft-side grip on the outside allowed me to vary the pressure by squeezing my hand more or less as desired, and it didn't make a big mess—in spite of the hole at the end, which I worried might leak before I was ready to clean up.

Speaking of clean up: definitely do wash up shortly after finishing your business. Dried-up spooge in something like this gets nasty fast, and can attract all sorts of bacteria and other disgusting things. If you're someone who doesn't like to wash their toys, maybe the disposable Tengas are for you after all—unless you like the idea of infections on your dickhead.

The price Angie paid at the shop was fair—around $25–$30—and I see that it can be found for a good bit less online. Much better than the pricier Fleshlight, for (in my opinion) a better experience.

With this little guy in hand (sorry about that pun) and Angie on my tablet in video chat, I won't mind if I have to take a longer trip again sometime soon.

I give it FIVE out of five "Os," with no complaints whatsoever. The Jack Sleeve is a great buy.

Burlesque Theater Seats for Second Life

I finished a new major project for Second Life yesterday: a set of theater seats that I made, first for a friend who runs a burlesque theater, and then to sell. 

My seats have simple animations for male and female sitting, with several options for each. They've also been configured in a way that uses the fewest scripts, which means that lag will be reduced significantly—which in a theater is vital, especially when trying to watch avatars dancing. The lag from having many avatars together can make it difficult for computers to render even the most basic movement, let alone elaborate dances. This should be a worthwhile upgrade for any theater owner.

Also, at my friend's theater the burlesque dancers do lapdances for the lucky fellows in the front row.

For a long time, the system they have used to do these has been awkward and sometimes less-than-smooth, involving the spontaneous appearance of poseballs over the avatars in those seats. I installed the option directly into a special set of seats, allowing them to click directly on the seat to perform them—and while I was at it, I set up three sequences, each with 3–4 different animations, all lasting longer than 2 minutes. This way, the dancers simply jump on the chair and choose their sequence, and they don't have to worry about selecting any poses beyond that.

Initial release includes two color schemes. The mesh template came with a lovely texture, that has an aged look to it; I released a version with this, calling it Antique Amber. My dear friend Cara also made a texture for me, in a stunning looking charcoal; this one I've called Gothic Gray. I'm working on another set of textures I'm calling Royal Red (which is a rich red velvet cushion atop gilded wood); and a fourth may be in the works in blue.

Review: VēDO Wink Vibrator

We had a little problem recently: hubby was scheduled to take a trip for two full weeks, for some continuing education for his work. Which meant that I would be stuck at home, all by myself... and horny. Now, I can fulfill some of my need through fantasy sex on Second Life, but it's rarely good enough to leave me satisfied. And while I'm not unskilled at self-pleasure, I always prefer a bit of interaction.

The solution I came up with: I picked up a couple of new toys from the adult novelty store that's closest to our house. For hubby, I got a VēDO Jack Stimulation Sleeve (look for HIS guest review, coming soon!); for myself, I picked up the VēDO Wink Vibrator.

The idea was: we could use the video chat function in our phones and tablets to fool around together, sort of like VR sex. He would use his Jack, and I would use my Wink, and we could get off at the same time—with a bit of dirty talk and visuals helping us along. It worked perfectly for both of our needs, and was a lot of fun as well.

But my goal today isn't just to suggest this solution for married couples who have to be apart for a while; I want to give a review of the VēDO Wink Vibrator.

As you can see from the picture, it is a "jackrabbit" style vibrator; this means that, in addition to the main probe/vibe, it has a second probe intended for additional stimulation. In this case, both probes have their own vibration motors and controls, so it is possible to have one going and not the other. Also, each control/motor has several settings (three each: high, low, and pulse), which makes for a lot of potentially amazing combinations—of which, I was happy to try a few.

For starters: this vibe is well-sized. It's big enough to feel substantial inside me, but not so big that I feel like I'm trying to prove something to myself. The width and length both are just about right; of course, every vagina is different, but I suspect that most girls will find that the Wink fits them pretty well. Also, the rabbit part (the second probe) hits me pretty well, too. I've had other jackrabbit-style vibes before, which may or may not line up pretty well with my clit. My guess is that the VēDO people did a fair amount of research on sizes and shapes as they designed this one.

It feels pretty good just as a dildo, but turn on one of the vibe settings and OH MY—very nice. They are well-calibrated settings: the low setting is a nice, mild stimulation, enough to get the juices flowing pretty heavily; the high setting is fairly intense, and I was quickly overwhelmed by it (but not necessarily in a bad way). Pulse is great, as it varies quickly but not so fast that you can't really tell a difference; in some vibes, "pulse" is a gimmick, as you have barely stopped feeling the vibration before it's up high again. Not so with the Wink.

When it came to the different settings and the dual motors/probe vibes, I tried to put it through its paces with adequate trials for many combinations; yes, it was a real hardship, but I did it for your sake, dear reader. Even though having both on high almost made me black out after a few minutes, I think my favorite was having the main vibe on low and the clit vibe on pulse—this one let me work it at my own pace, grinding the whole thing in and out and quaking out orgasm after orgasm. A close second was a variation, with the main vibe on pulse and the clit vibe on low; this felt almost like the Wink was fucking me all by itself, while giving my clit a nice, regular stroke—once I figured this out, I used this combination regularly during my video sessions with hubby, and it gave me a nice "virtual reality" sensation.

Another variation that I tried out—actually, hubby did, when he was playing with me one morning after returning home—was turning the whole thing over and letting the second probe address my asshole. The fit isn't quite as good for this (which makes sense, as this is not the position it was designed for), but nevertheless it was a whole lot of fun. I'll have to re-visit that option, and see how I like the different combinations that way.

If it sounds like the Wink is pretty awesome, that's because it really is. The only issue I found is actually a non-issue, once you understand it. If you read other reviews online, you will frequently see the complaint that the switches don't turn the vibrating motors off. That's wrong; they DO, if you hold them in for about five seconds. If you just touch them quickly, they will switch to the next mode but not turn off. This, I'm sure, is so that girls don't get frustrated from accidentally hitting the switch and turning the whole thing off—but it's understandable that others may complain about this, which certainly is not intuitive. (It is, however, mentioned in the instructions that come with the Wink.)

This was my first product from VēDO, and I can tell you that they will be on my list of manufacturers whose goods I like and will buy again. In fact, after scanning their website, I already have my eye on a couple of others that they make. All of their products are made from high-end silicone, with plastic attachments when necessary (such as the motor housing for this vibe). And yes, it's that same yummy, satiny texture of silicone that I love so much!

VēDO assures us that this toy is 100% non-latex and is phthalate free, and thus hypoallergenic. It cleans up easily with soap and water or a specialized toy cleaner; you can submerge it, because it's waterproof, as long as it is fully assembled (but don't try to wash it when it's disassembled, or you may ruin the electronics).

I give it all five out of five "Os," with no complaints or concerns at all! The price was fair—a bargain, compared to some other higher-end vibes—and the quality and function of the Wink is totally satisfactory. The non-intuitive switch is a minor concern, but not if you read the instruction.

Fun Find: Geeky Sex Toys

I discovered a fun, new small business today, called "Geeky Sex Toys"—and it's exactly what it sounds like.

Sample: Freaky Family Fun

Hey y'all: the long-awaited sequel novella to my most popular story, Kissing Cousins, is almost ready!

The next one, and the second in my "Family Affairs" series, will be called Freaky Family Fun, and features the two characters from Kissing Cousins, Keith and Kelli, along with a lot of other family members.

This will be a first for me, in that it is my first "book" that is longer than a short; more of a novella, Freaky Family Fun will be around 35,000 words long. It also develops the characters more than most of my other writing does—at least in a single volume (you can piece together a lot of my Angie character from the various different stories that include her). And, of course, there's plenty of sex!

“Alright everyone,” Aunt Carrie announced, “There’s plenty of food for lunch, so get what you want and find a seat. There’s the big table in the kitchen, the card table in the den, the picnic table out on the deck, and the built-in on the sun porch. I think there will be room for everyone—there always is!”

They all lined up and made sandwiches, helped themselves to chips, cokes, and beer, and started to scatter. Since Keith’s sister was coming that afternoon and his wife wouldn’t be there for another day or so, Keith hesitated for a moment, wondering who to sit with.

Keith had only had occasional contact with Kendra and Jim—he knew Jeff and Mary much better—and he wasn’t sure how readily they would relate to him one on one. He was pleasantly surprised when they both took to him right away, and when they invited him to join them on the sun porch for lunch. He gratefully accepted, and slid into the end of the u-shaped bench nearest Jim and Cal, who were back in the bottom of the “u,” and across from Kelli and Kendra.

They ate, talked a bit, and laughed even more; it was a great lunch. Jim and Kendra, who had been close before she left for college, hadn’t seen much of each other until they got in the car together because of the distance from Kendra’s school and their home. Neither had Cal or Kelli seen Kendra since Spring Break, and at first Keith felt that he was intruding on their family reunion. They quickly put him at ease, however, and he enjoyed hearing about how Kendra’s last year had gone, her plans for an acting career, Jim’s hopes for making the varsity squad that fall, and what was new around their hometown. 

Keith took care to watch Cal and Kelli interact. During their time together the day before, Kelli had mentioned Cal’s affair; from the looks of things, Keith couldn’t detect any awkwardness or distance between them. If anything, they appeared as happy and in love as they ever had—and that had always struck Keith as being a very happy marriage indeed. I suppose whatever the details of their reconciliation and “arrangement” are, they both feel pretty good about it, Keith determined.

About half-way through lunch, Keith felt a bare foot briefly brushing his leg; at first he flinched, thinking it must have been a mistake. Birthday Party Tease

Review: Doc Johnson Violet Gems Glass Wand

I've had my eye on glass toys for a while; until recently, however, I hadn't had a chance to try one out. This one, the Black Rose Violet Gems Wand from Doc Johnson, came as a gift from a reader! (Thanks so much, reader!!)

What's so appealing about glass toys? Well, for starters, they offer a totally different texture and feel than silicone or plastic ones; they are more rigid, firm, and inflexible (for obvious reasons) than any of the others. They are also oh-so-slippery; I'll comment more about this in a sec. Another intriguing feature is that they allow more creative options, like heat and cold (soak it in hot water for heat; put it in the fridge for cold), which can be stimulating in new and, frankly, thrilling ways. After trying this one out, I can assure you that this won't be my last glass toy.

This Wand is fairly large; as you can see from the picture, there are four "knobs" formed into it, and my husband was able to work the third knob into me, but much more was uncomfortable. There's plenty of wand here for even the hungriest of holes. In spite of its length, it's nicely tapered and not too thick; the base/end is easy to grasp and comfortable in the hand, too.

We tried it out first when he was going down on me, after he had already gotten going for a few minutes. Without any additional lube, it slipped in easily—glass, of course, being an already fairly slick surface, all the more when mingled with spit and other juices. Once inside me, it felt wonderful! the different texture from the other toys I'm used to was a welcome variation, and the different sizes of the shaft gave it a nice contour. I was already on the way to an orgasm, but the Wand definitely helped things along.

Another time I gave it a go by myself, and this time I heated it up by running hot water over it for a few minutes. A quick swipe of Gun Oil across my lips gave it all the help it needed, and in it went—I have a feeling I could have just licked it, and that might have been enough lube. The heated glass was a surprising change; very different from the "warming" lubes I've tried, but a similar effect of making all of the stimulation a little embellished. I usually like a little vibration in my inserted toys, or the ability to move against it more myself (as in, mounting it on a hard surface, such as in the shower), but I was able to get off with the Wand and a bit more wrist activity than I'm used to.

The base of this toy looks wide enough in diameter to fit into some harnesses; however, the protruding "gem" mounted in the back may prevent this from working effectively, as it did with my favorite harness. Also, because of the weight of the Wand (and caution about the materials its made of), I would urge you to be very careful about using this in any sort of harness, unless you are absolutely certain it won't fall out. And, given the length (and my own experience about its capacity for uncomfortably deep penetration), be extra-careful not to be too rough with it, in a harness.

Being glass, of course, means that this toy is 100% non-latex and is phthalate free, and thus hypoallergenic. Also, because it's glass, it's super-easy to clean, and it's even labeled as dishwasher-safe (which, because of the presence of kids in our home, we won't be testing out). This Wand is borosilicate glass, which is the same kind of glass as the Pyrex measuring cup or casserole dish in your kitchen—which means, it's tough and can withstand variations in temperature very well, but it can still break. If your toy chips or cracks at all, I highly recommend that you stop using it immediately to avoid severe injury.

An important disclaimer: despite what the Amazon listing says, this is NOT a butt plug; please don't try to use it as one! It is way too long to be used safely in the manner that a butt plug typically is—that is, inserted all the way to the base. This toy is best classified as a "probe" which means among other things that, yes, it can be used for anal play, but isn't intended for that sole purpose.

Overall, I like the Black Rose Violet Gems Wand a lot, and foresee it coming out of the toy box fairly regularly. I give it four and a half out of five "Os," holding back the one "O" because of the gem in the end which keeps me from using it in my harness. Apart from this, the Wand is a great, fun new toy! Review: Astroglide Lubricant

When it comes to lubrication, the higher-end and specialized lubes are great; I've reviewed some before, and I actually have a few more in the queue for future reviews. But some of these can be harder to find, and are often on the more expensive end. How about something you can find at your local Walmart or pharmacy? Among these, my go-to pick is Astroglide.

I've used several of Astroglide's lubes, but my favorites are the Astroglide Gel and their Astroglide Liquid Personal Lubricant. Both are water-based lubricants, which I've mentioned before are my preferred bases for easier cleanup.

The liquid personal lubricant (their original product, from what I can tell) is a nice, thin liquid that runs across skin very nicely—it will spread and flow to fill the cracks around it. The label also calls it a "vaginal moisturizer" which it excels at, as well. This stuff is perfect for getting me prepped before a little toy-play, or for giving hubby a nice "rub-down." The consistency is almost like vegetable oil, but a bit thinner. It isn't flavored, but the taste that it does have isn't unpleasant; a little bit sweet, but otherwise nondescript. I keep a small (2.5 oz.) bottle of this in my overnight makeup bag, and another in my purse, for those "just in case" situations. 

The much thicker gel is what you would hope and expect from a gel: it doesn't "run" or flow anywhere, but stays where you put it. I like the gel version in three circumstances. First of all, it's great for back-door, anal play; because of the thicker viscosity of the gel, it will really get in there and lube up a butthole pretty thoroughly. Second, I like it for when I want to coat my toy(s) with lube before use; it will cling to the toy nicely, and not evaporate. Third, it's a great option for use in the shower because the thickness prevents it from washing away as rapidly—in fact, the water from the shower will really get this stuff very slippery! (Because it's water-based, it's not as good for the tub.) The gel isn't as thick as, say, vaseline, but it is thicker than a typical shampoo or hand lotion. It too has a not-unpleasant nondescript taste. Unlike most lubes that I've used, I find that a little of the Astroglide Gel goes a long way; it also doesn't need as much re-application as other lubes I've tried.

One down-side to water-based lubricants in general—and Astroglide is no exception here—is that, as they do begin to dry out, they can leave a tacky/sticky feeling on the skin surfaces they touched. This can be dealt with by re-moistening a little (a few drops of water or even some saliva will encourage the slipperiness to return), and it goes away fairly quickly. But for those moments when it is there—say, on your hands after rubbing some all over *ahem* your husband's member—it can be momentarily unpleasant.

Another comment with both pro and con implications: Astroglide products all come with a flip-cap cover that is fairly easy to get into one-handed; very useful, right? But, the covers on the bottles of Astroglide liquid are somewhat flimsy; it isn't very hard for the flip-cap to be broken off, or to pop open when you don't want it to. I have had a bottle open and leak all of its contents out in my makeup bag once, which left a little gooeyness all over the other containers.

Astroglide makes a variety of options: there's a warming formula, silicone-based lubes, sensitive skin versions, and even flavored varieties. As I mentioned above, I've tried several of these; the two I have reviewed here are my favorites, but (as always) your mileage may vary. All of them are very reasonably priced, and many varieties are commonly available at big-box stores, pharmacies, and even grocery stores.

I give it four and a half out of five "Os," because of the flimsy cap on the liquid bottle. Besides that, Astroglide is a great lube and plenty capable to meet most peoples' needs. (And if you like this review, check out all of My Reviews.)

Review: Anal Fantasy Ass-Gasm Cockring Plug

This toy is made with 100% silicone, and the quality is top-notch. It has a smooth, almost silky texture, and there are no "seams" or mold lines to get rough. It's a rich black color, which is plenty masculine for men who are more picky about such things.

The idea is that it has a large-ish prostate probe, connected to a cock-ring. The probe is big enough to stay in hubby's hole without being held there; it's bigger than most of the prostate probes I've ever seen before. As such, it can be a little difficult getting inside him, and he hasn't been able to get it in all by himself even with generous lubrication. For us, this is definitely a two-person toy.

The cock-ring attachment can stretch a little, to allow it to be put in place around his cock after inserting the probe; however, we're both a little nervous about stretching it to the point that it would snap (even though nothing suggests that we should be), so we usually put it on him before inserting the probe. The ring is obviously just one size, which happens to fit hubby very well when fully erect and/or stretched around his balls as well—though it is the slightest bit loose over just his shaft when he's only half-hard. I recommend fitting the balls through the ring as well, to maximize the effectiveness of the ring.

Once inside him, the shape and fit of the probe is perfect—he says it's not painful or even a strain, like some larger butt plugs can be, but is plenty big enough for ample stimulation.
